Did You Know...?

There used to be a barbershop on the property that now belongs to Todd and Stella.
There used to be a row of small cabins on the south side of Woodard Road. Corner of South Shore & Woodard.
There used to be a coffee shop on the property adjacent to the beach Club on the South.
There was once a roller skating rink on our beach.
There was a baseball field on part of what is now our golf course – teams from many areas used to come for tournaments.
There was a garbage dump on part of what is now our golf course.
There was a horse riding stable where South Shore Estates is now.
Camp Diamond (once called Sunset Beach) contained gas pumps, a tavern, grocery store and a restaurant that served breakfast and lunch.
The Fourth of July used to be a “big deal” with a carnival, a Ferris wheel, and pony rides.
The beach area had cabins, boats to rent and a dock with a high and low dive, a dance hall and a water wheel for kids to play on.
Across from the beach on the North, was an icehouse that stored ice that was harvested from the lake. Ice was delivered to Newport and sold at the Camp Diamond store to people in the local area that bought ice for their iceboxes.
The area across from the beach (across the road on South Shore) used to be a large park that was part of the resort. It was frequently used a s location for annual picnics and for business from Newport or Spokane.
The area now known as Diamond Heights used to be a dairy farm.
The playground area and the houses surrounding it was the park that was a part of the Camp Diamond Resort.
